HOW MANY LITTERS DO YOU HAVE PER YEAR?

There are no set numbers of litters available each year. Vintage Cavaliers’ goal is to have at least one  litter per year, through our selective breeding program.  We are hobby breeders, and do not “mass breed” our girls.  Our emphasis is on producing healthy Cavaliers, with good temperament, that reflect and conform to the breed standard.  Our goal is to produce a show quality puppy that we can keep and work toward a championship.

ARE YOUR CAVALIERS AKC REGISTERED?

Yes, all of our Cavaliers are registered with the American Kennel Club, under our registered kennel name, “Mishka.”

WHAT PAPERS WILL I RECEIVE IF I ADOPT A VINTAGE CAVALIER?

All Vintage Cavalier puppies will be registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC).  When someone adopts a Vintage Cavalier puppy, they will be provided with the puppy’s AKC registration papers, health records, and pedigree.

As described below, Vintage Cavalier puppies are sold as companion pets. These puppies will be registered with limited AKC registration.  Limited AKC registration means that these puppies cannot be bred, and cannot participate in AKC conformation events.  However, a puppy with limited AKC registration is eligible to enter and participate in AKC obedience, rally and agility events.

CAN I ADOPT A VINTAGE CAVALIER AND HAVE BREEDING PRIVILEGES

No.  Unless rare circumstances exist and warrant otherwise, all of our puppies are sold as “companion pets.”  This means that Vintage Cavalier puppies are sold with a written spay/neuter agreement, and may not be bred.

The reason for selling our puppies with a spay/neuter agreement is to protect our puppies from getting into the hands of puppy mills.  Our puppies are raised in our home, and become part of our family. The health and well-being of our Cavaliers are very important to us. All Vintage Cavaliers are treated with loving care, provided excellent veterinary care, and are given much attention. We do our best to protect this breed and our individual puppies from getting into the hands of unscrupulous individuals and puppy mills. For more information on puppy mills, and to learn the damaging effects that they have on puppies, visit stop puppy mills.

WHAT HEALTH CHECKS ARE PERFORMED ON VINTAGE CAVALIERS?

All Vintage Cavaliers receive annual wellness exams and vaccinations.  Cavaliers used in our selective breeding program receive additional testing from veterinary cardiologists and ophthalmologists.  Starting from two years of age, Vintage Cavaliers also have patellas and hip exams and certification.

Vintage puppies receive regular veterinary exams, beginning at eight weeks of age.  When a Vintage puppy leaves for his new home, he will be current on all vaccinations and worming. All vaccinations are provided by a licensed veterinarian. The new owner will be provided with a health booklet which details the puppy’s veterinary treatment, including vaccinations received, and the name of the veterinarian who treated the puppy.

WILL A CAVALIER GET ALONG WITH CHILDREN?

Yes. Cavaliers are friendly gentle sport spaniels that get along with everyone, including children, although they must be treated gently.  Cavaliers demand to be included in all family activities and show their appreciation with abundant kisses. Cavaliers love attention and praise. Cavaliers are companion dogs and love being with their owner, whether outside in the back yard, or simply sitting on your lap.

WHEN CAN I BRING MY CAVALIER PUPPY HOME?

Our puppies remain in our home for at least 10 weeks.  While some breeders release their puppies earlier, we find that Cavalier puppies need more time with their mother and litter mates prior to moving to a new environment. At 10 weeks of age the Cavalier puppy will be sufficiently mature to more easily transition to a new home.
